About James Carey
James Carey is a Paris, Texas artist and educator whose work is grounded in studio art, painting, and community engagement. Born in Paris and raised in nearby Reno, Texas, Carey graduated from North Lamar High School, attended Paris Junior College, and later earned his Fine Arts degree with a focus in studio art and painting from Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Artist and educator
Carey began his work in education as a long-term substitute and went on to serve as a Special Education, Inclusion, and case worker teacher at his alma mater, North Lamar High School. In 2023, he became a Fine Arts teacher at Chisum High School and later at Prairiland High School, where he teaches today.
Community leadership
Beyond the classroom and his home studio, Carey remains active in the regional arts community. He joined the Plaza Art Guild of Paris, Texas in 2018 and currently serves as its Secretary; he is also a founding member and current President of the Paris Poetry Society, as well as a former Vice President and active member of the Paris Area Arts Alliance.
